Drone Data Capture Method

1. Initial Recce

  • Visited the school to record a walk around for each of the 12 flights around the campus. Took careful notes of potential hazards, areas needing to be cordoned off, optimum flight paths and areas to showcase.

  • Worked closely with the communications team to create a shooting order and plan.

2. Office Preparation:

  • Checked airspace restrictions and confirmed required authorisations & permissions.

  • Completed pre-flight assessments in line with CAA requirements.

3. On-site Flight Preparation:

  • Completed the onsite survey for both locations to complete the flight planning and risk assessment requirements.

  • Set the drone to record in 60FPS, 4:3 ratio, wide view and with EIS off for optimum viewing through the goggles. Also set the colour capture to M-Log to have more colour control in the edit.

  • Used a combination of ND filters, auto ISO mode and general auto mode to capture each flight depending on the light and purpose of each flight. For example, some flights required moving between inside and out and had to move between filters and automatic mode to capture the light in the best possible way for the edit.

4. FPV Flights:

  • Used a team of spotters and site staff to conduct each of the flights safely ensuring all members of the public near the flight paths were clear of any potential dangers.

  • Made minor adjustments to the flight paths when the drone was affecting the environment (e.g. propellors blowing off paper) as required.

5. Additional Drone Flights:

  • Used external heavier drone with much higher wind resistance for sections of the sports field where a higher altitude was needed and the wind was affecting the FPV drone.

6. On-site Review:

  • Reviewed the footage onsite to ensure everything captured was as required by the client and to check for any errors.

7. Video Footage Processing:

  • Processed all footage from the drone, stabilised in Gyroflow.

8. Editing & Delivery:

  • Produced all initial edits for feedback from the communications team.

  • Edited to 3 specific music tracks, as chosen by the client, that matched the different edits.

  • Added in all titles, branding and logo reveals as required by the client.

  • Completed final colour grading and checks before delivery and sign off to the client.

Benefits

Higher Social Media Reach and Retention

FPV footage attracts exceptional engagement on digital platforms due to its fast-paced, fluid motion and distinctive viewpoint. It holds viewers’ attention longer than conventional video, improving performance across social media, websites and online ads, often doubling watch times and driving more shares and comments.

Emotional and Story-Driven Engagement

A continuous FPV flight path creates a natural narrative flow, from the main entrance through key facilities to outdoor areas, making storytelling seamless and dynamic. This cinematic journey helps viewers feel emotionally engaged, encouraging them to imagine themselves within the school or venue’s atmosphere.

Immersive Virtual Experience

FPV drones can glide smoothly through corridors, classrooms, sports halls and outdoor areas, showing viewers what it’s like to walk through the environment rather than just see static shots. This immersive perspective helps prospective students, parents or clients instantly connect with the space before visiting in person.

Showcase of Unique Features

Using precise, agile drone movement, FPV fly-throughs can highlight architectural details, special facilities, sustainable features or dynamic learning environments in ways static photography cannot, such as weaving through sports arenas, climbing stairwells or sweeping across landscaping and play areas.

Virtual Tour Accessibility

FPV videos can serve as virtual open days or venue tours, ideal for audiences unable to visit physically. This is particularly effective for international students, families or corporate clients researching event spaces remotely.

Cost-Effective Marketing Tool

Unlike multiple camera setups or staged film crews, a single professional FPV drone operator can capture all the footage in one seamless take. This keeps production efficient while achieving cinematic results that rival traditional marketing videos.
